Becoming Bakitza

An aspiring bakitza attempting to slowly take control of her journey

First steps

Ok, so I really need to get to the very basics. So my first two rules:

———-

1. Don’t bring phone into the bedroom at night.

Very important, because without sleep, nothing will get accomplished. And as my sleep is very choppy, sooner or later I ended up browsing. I finally fixed my bedroom clock, so I don’t need the phone to tell the time when I wake up, and then I just stay and eventually fall back asleep without the phone to keep me scrolling until dawn. It helped. I think it’s been about 4 nights, and I’m slowly feeling more rested, though it’ll take time to catch back up.

———-

2. Put phone on focus mode between 9am and 5pm.

It’s only been 1 day, and I’ve done much more than any of the previous days. Not that many to-do items checked off, it’s still burning under my feet. But I’ve finally sat down for several hours with one problem that’s been hovering over my head, and seems like I had a breakthrough. Something that wasn’t possible when I didn’t take time to think it through without distractions.

———-

That’s it for now. I need to see that this consistently works before I add new blocks and everything tumbles down again.

P.S. I’m also out of my post-weaning depression, which helps! But it has had some lasting effects, because it got me right back into the worst procrastinating habits that are not easy to shake off

About Me

I got my first nickname when I was 4 years old. It was “bakitza”, which means ‘an old lady’. I’ve always been an old lady on the inside. And as I progress towards being an old lady on the outside too, I want to take control of this journey. To reach the full fledged bakitza level with a peace of mind I always associated with that life stage. I thought it would come on it’s own with age. But now I realize that I have to take control over the mess that my life currently is in order to be a thoroughly satisfied bakitza one day.
