To-Do, but With Focus
Dear Conscience, I am still experimenting with this to-do list effort. On one hand, I want to just develop a habit of keeping and managing a to-do list, even if I am not very good at checking things off yet. On the other, it feels pointless just transferring the same tastes to next day, without Continue reading

Make or Break Period
Dear Conscience, I think that an important element in a quest to introduce a desired behavior is to initially really focus on it intensely in the first week. The failure rate in the first 10 days or so is very high (after about 3 days of initial excitement about a new habit). We know well Continue reading

No Judgment, Just Habit
Dear Conscience, In order to successfully integrate a practice of managing a daily to-do list, it has to become a habit. In thinking this throng, I realized that my so-called 3 “basic” or “core” habits are more about following rules I set out for myself, instead of the “micro” “tiny” or “atomic” habits recommended more Continue reading

Ivy Lee, Rescue Me!
Dear Conscience, I struggle with to-do lists. Not just with checking off the items, but also with writing them down in the first place, referring to them later, or having any consistency at all. I tried simple, with post-it notes that end up creating more desk clutter than help. I tried complicated, with labels, dates, Continue reading

Fixing, Maintaining and Living Life. All at Once?
Dear Conscience, Yesterday was a decent day. I’ll ascribe it to moving my To-Do list, planning and studying to my new digital notebook. Of course now, I have to make sure that my life doesn’t get taken over by planning. While I was happy scribbling away and crossing a few things off of my to-do Continue reading

Just Trying to Get Through the To-Do Labyrinth
Dear Conscience, I’m on the second day of my 4-day plan to duct-tape my year together before it ends. First day wasn’t a total write-off, but it wasn’t stellar either. The first point about staying healthy was definitely ambitious — no way I will suddenly get into all these healthy habits now in the final Continue reading

The List of To-Dos Until Year End
Dear Conscience, I wrote down nearly everything I need to do been now and Christmas. I always feel a little calmer once it’s on paper. Usually though, it doesn’t necessarily lead to getting all of the things done in a more systematic way. Maybe I somehow expect that the implementation will follow automatically after the Continue reading

It’s Sunday, Slow Down
Dear Conscience, It’s Sunday. Again, my life feels like a failing race to catch up with all urgent to-dos faster than the pace at which they keep piling up. It’s Sunday. I should take it slow. The week ahead is gonna be rough. I have to start thinking (and doing) ahead to have any chance Continue reading

Galloping To-Do List
Dear Conscience, No matter how I check things off, there’s always more that I move to the next day than I started with. I need to get better at prioritizing, estimating time, and crossing items off. All the things I’m bad at. And it’s not even that I’m putting random things on. All of these Continue reading

Getting Back on Track
Ok, today is the day of perseverance, so a good day to tackle some of the backlog, despite ongoing sleep deprivation. My focus is still on sleep, in a sense that it is non negotiable that I stick with my plan and routine to improve my daughter’s sleep. That currently makes my nights even more Continue reading
About Me
I got my first nickname when I was 4 years old. It was “bakitza”, which means ‘an old lady’. I’ve always been an old lady on the inside. And as I progress towards being an old lady on the outside too, I want to take control of this journey. To reach the full fledged bakitza level with a peace of mind I always associated with that life stage. I thought it would come on it’s own with age. But now I realize that I have to take control over the mess that my life currently is in order to be a thoroughly satisfied bakitza one day.
